Not full width: the editor was set to size itself to its content. That applies to width as well as height, so the box shrank. Now the editor reports only its height to the native side and always spans the full width. It also grows as you type, and when the link bar opens.
Slow to load: the editor runs in a WebView, which takes a moment to start. Now a native copy of the field shows instantly: same box, toolbar icons, placeholder and counter. When editing an existing product it shows the formatted description instead. The real editor takes over as soon as it's ready, so the wait shouldn't be visible.
Part of the delay you saw is likely the development build, where the editor's code is served unminified from the dev server. A release build should start noticeably faster.
